Drawing allows me a completely different approach to questions that arise in the sculpture. In a way, I am sculpting still- adding and subtracting form with scissors, building surfaces with dense charcoal. Often I impose figurative elements onto abstract structures to create visual tension. There is always a reference or a touch point to the "real" world, such as anatomical diagrams, or knotting systems. Meaning is found through an un-layering of associations.
